Ophcrack steals Windows passwords using LM hashes (LanMan Hashes) from Rainbow Tables. It also uses NTLM hash cracking. Real-time graphs
There are graphs that are consistently showing you valuable information. There are a total of three graphics that are shown to you. Two on the top and one at the bottom. The top-left graph shows you the complexity category of the passwords. Ophcrack has many different groups where it places a password depending on how strong it is.
The top right graph shows you the length of the password in characters from 0 to 15. The chart at the bottom shows you how much time it is taking to crack the password in seconds.
Here is what the numbers mean in the complexity category:
- 0: Empty.
- 1: Single-case alpha
- 2: Single-case alphanum
- 3: Mixed-case alpha
- 4: Mixed-case alphanum
- 5: Special char
Free Windows 10, 7, 8 and Vista Tables
These are precomputed tables that are used for cracking passwords by reversing the cryptographic hash functions. The primary purpose of tables is to recover passwords that have a specific number of lengths.
It allows you to select the table of your choice when starting to hash them. However, you will need to install them one by one.

Brute-Force Module
There is a brute force module that can be added in order to allow the brute-forcing of simple passwords. This uses a dictionary attack or a word list attack just like THC-Hydra and John The Ripper does.
A live CD for portability
The new Ophcrack also comes with a live CD. This gives you the benefits of carrying the software around in disk media. You will not need to install ophcrack when using a Live CD. You can also have it on a flash drive instead of a disk. However, you will need one with a large capacity as the tables are large in size.
Auditing and Reports
Ophcrack allows you to audit the system’s security and password complexity. It allows you to check how strong the domain passwords are and if there are any improvements needed. This is great if there are servers running Windows that need a strong password.
You can also export the reports in CSV format. This makes it easier for humans to read and can be later converted to a word document or PDF.
Simple Interface Design
The GUI is straightforward and easy to use. You don’t need to be a cryptography specialist or a hacker to use ophcrack software. It displays simple functions and buttons that clearly state their purpose. You can stop a hashing process and save it.
