Finnish IT software and services firm Tietoevry experienced a ransomware attack on one of its data centers, leading to widespread outages across Sweden. The attack affected healthcare, government services, retail outlets, and the country’s largest cinema chain. Tietoevry isolated the attacker’s access and apologized for the disruptions, but the restoration process may take several days or even weeks. Multiple Swedish organizations reported IT outages, including payroll system outages for government authorities and universities. Crisis management plans were launched in Uppsala County due to offline medical record systems and financial systems becoming unavailable. The attack was attributed to the Akira ransomware group, which has targeted Finnish organizations in the past. Tietoevry has not disclosed the attack vector or any ransom demands.
